USA Women’s Premier League Rugby: Glendale Raptors
The Glendale Raptors bounced back from their first loss of the 2014 Women’s Premier League season with a hard-fought win against Oregon Sports Union Saturday, Oct. 4.
Thanks to three wins from their first three matches, the Glendale Raptors were not unseated from the top of the Blue Conference table after they lost to Berkeley All Blues last weekend. ORSU, however, had Glendale in the crosshairs and could have closed the gap with a win in Colorado Saturday.
Women’s Eagle Hannah Stolba dotted down in the fifth minute and converted the try for a 7-0 Raptors lead. ORSU replied with a try five minutes later, but Glendale scored another 16 points to take a strong, 23-7 lead into the half.
A quick try from Taryn Brennan extended Glendale’s advantage but the Glendale Raptors failed to put more points on the board in the remaining 35 minutes of the match. Three tries from ORSU threatened the leaders’ place atop the table, but Glendale held on for the 28-24 win.
