Tournament director Donal Kilalea hails fans’ response ahead of Dubai Rugby Sevens.
Dubai Rugby Sevens held on Thursday 4, Friday 5, and Saturday 6 December 2014
6pm – Tuesday October 28, 2014 – gulfnews.com Dubai: Ticket sales for the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens are up 100 per cent year-on-year, organisers claimed on Tuesday.
More than 100,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event at The Sevens stadium between December 4 and 6, which serves as round two of the nine-stage HSBC Sevens World Series.
This year’s series will be particularly competitive given that the top four finishers in both the men’s and women’s competitions will qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Tickets went on sale on October 15 before an inaugural launch party at Meydan Beach two days later. Since then the organisers have said the response has been unprecedented.
“We are delighted to see tickets selling so well,” said tournament director Donal Kilalea. “This event is such a big part of Dubai life — it’s not only a fantastic weekend of rugby but a great opportunity for bringing the community together in a really positive way.
“We are focusing heavily this year on providing a great family day out, with activities and entertainment for all ages. We have 2,000 family seats set aside in the stands, a fantastic Sabaa 7s kids club with a circus workshop, bouncy castles and face painting, and a professional creche for the littlest fans.
“It’s free entry to the event for children under 12, so it really is a great weekend for all the family to enjoy. Read more>
